Most of us want success in life, but very few people pause to ask themselves one fundamental question:

What actually is success?

According to society’s standards, success often means more money, fame, a luxury car, or popularity on social media.

These things may appear attractive, but they do not necessarily provide lasting satisfaction to everyone.

The real problem is that many of us set our ambitions without going through the process of values clarification. In other words, we do not take enough time to ask ourselves:

What values do I personally believe in?

What truly matters to me?

Which direction and type of work will give me inner satisfaction?
Do I simply want to impress others, or do I genuinely want to live a meaningful life?

According to psychologists Edward Deci and Richard Ryan and their Self-Determination Theory, human beings feel more satisfied and perform better when their goals are connected to autonomy, competence, and meaningful relationships. Goals based solely on wealth, fame, or external approval often create even more anxiety.

Viktor Frankl, in his famous book Man’s Search for Meaning, expressed a powerful idea: happiness cannot be pursued directly; it is often a by-product of living a life filled with meaning and responsibility.
If people clarify their values early in life—especially during youth—they can avoid becoming trapped in society’s blind race. They begin to live not for praise and approval from others, but according to their own principles.
True success is not when people think you are successful.

True success is when you can sleep peacefully at night with self-respect—knowing that you have lived your life according to your genuine principles.
