🌙 Ramanujan and His Dream Equations

Compilation: Shariq Ali

Srinivasa Ramanujan was a poor young man from India. He loved mathematics more than anything else. He didn’t have proper books or teachers, but numbers spoke to him. He would sit for hours writing strange, beautiful formulas.

But the most magical thing about him was this:

He used to see equations in his dreams!

He once said that when he slept, he would see a bright light shining inside his mind. In that light, the Hindu goddess Namagiri (whom he worshipped) would appear and show him mysterious mathematical formulas.

When he woke up, he would quickly write down those formulas. Later, many of these turned out to be correct and highly advanced, even surprising the world’s top mathematicians.

🌌 The Universe Through Numbers

Ramanujan believed that the universe itself could be understood through numbers.

He thought that math is not just logic, but also something deeply connected to the universe’s soul—a bridge between humans and the mysteries of creation.

He would often say,

“An equation has no meaning to me unless it expresses a thought of God.”

✨ His Special Equation (Mock Theta Functions)

Near the end of his life, he had a series of dreams where he saw some very strange mathematical patterns. He called them Mock Theta Functions. At that time, no one could understand them.

But today, scientists use these very same functions in:

Black hole physics

String theory (study of the universe’s tiniest building blocks)

Quantum physics

💡 Moral of the Story

Ramanujan’s story tells us:

Inspiration can come from anywhere—even dreams!

The human mind has amazing, hidden powers.

Numbers can be as mysterious as stars.
