Ibn-e-Sina University, Mirpurkhas: A Shining Example

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to visit Ibn-e-Sina University in Mirpurkhas. The invitation was extended by my longtime friend and classmate, Professor Syed Razi Muhammad, who is the Chancellor of the institution. His warm hospitality, along with the enthusiastic welcome from his team, made the visit both pleasant and memorable.
I learned that Ibn-e-Sina University is the first chartered university in the entire Mirpurkhas Division. It has truly transformed higher education in a region of nearly 2.5 million people, where access to advanced studies was once almost nonexistent. In 1999, when the institution first took shape, there was not a single scholar with a higher academic diploma in the entire division. Today, thanks to these dedicated efforts, more than 248 scholars have been produced, and over 2,000 medical graduates are serving in every district of Pakistan and on every inhabited continent of the world. This is, without doubt, an extraordinary educational and social transformation.
Several institutions are part of this academic journey, including Muhammad Medical College (MMC), Muhammad Dental College, the Muhammad Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, the Muhammad Institute of Science and Technology, and the Muhammad Institute of Paramedics Training.
At present, 500 students are enrolled in MBBS, 150 in BDS, 200 in Doctor of Physiotherapy, 75 in Nursing, and 216 in Paramedical Sciences.
What impressed me most was that more than a hundred senior faculty members of Muhammad Medical College are themselves young professionals who were either trained by the institution or sponsored for their postgraduate studies. This is a remarkable example of long-term investment in human capital.
The dedicated work of Professor Syed Razi Muhammad and his team stands as a model not only for Mirpurkhas but for all of Pakistan. Their efforts demonstrate how sincerity, vision, and consistent hard work can transform the future of an entire region.
