The Taj Mahal
Located in the city of Agra, India, is renowned worldwide for its stunning architecture and rich history. Constructed by 20,000 workers, it is a blend of Persian, Turkish, Ottoman, and Indian architectural styles. The construction of the Taj Mahal took 22 years and was completed in 1653. The white marble used was sourced from Makrana, Rajasthan, while precious stones were imported from Iran, Afghanistan, Tibet, and China.
The Taj Mahal appears in different colors at various times of the day: pink in the morning, milky white in the evening, and golden at night. Its four minarets are designed to fall outward in case of an earthquake, protecting the main structure. Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, its foundations are laid on strong stones to prevent damage from the river’s flow.
It is said that Shah Jahan had planned to build a Black Taj Mahal for himself, which never came to fruition. The walls of the Taj Mahal are inscribed with Quranic verses, and the gardens feature an intricate underground water supply system. To protect the monument from air pollution, the government has restricted vehicle access in its vicinity.
